How it Works

The San Diego 4-Choice Flex Pass is an all-digital pass that you design based on your own interests. Choose an animal park, a museum, a tour or aquarium, and an amusement park or kayak rental. You do not have the option to choose two from the same category, which can be a disadvantage depending upon what you want to see and do, but this pass is a smart product for those who want to sample a little bit of everything. It also serves as a great introduction to the area, and makes sense if you’re looking to explore a little bit before committing yourself to further sightseeing.

This pass is an all-digital product, meaning that you’ll receive an e-mail upon purchase with a pdf. You can display the pdf on a smartphone or other mobile device for admission, or choose to print it out if you don’t have a smartphone or prefer paper products. This is especially handy for those who don’t have the time to plan ahead, because there’s no need to wait on shipping or processing. They also now have a Go City App, which you can use to display your passes.

Simply display your pass at the admissions window or ticket counter at each included attraction during normal operating hours, and you’ll be let into the attraction. Once the pass is activated (used at your first attraction), you have 30 days to use all of your included attractions. You can visit each attraction only once during the duration of the pass.

Additional Benefits: Skip the Line at Select Attractions

A nice benefit of the San Diego 4-Choice Flex Pass is that your admission includes the ability to skip the line at top attractions. You can skip the line at the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and the USS Midway Museum, all of which are popular attractions during many times of year and almost always have long lines. You don’t get to skip the line at all of the attractions on your pass, however, which in the summer months can hold you up a bit.

Get Your Money’s Worth: Save on Regular Admission

The San Diego 4-Choice Flex Pass advertises that you can save up to 39% on admission to your four chosen attractions. Realistically, the number is probably a little bit less than this. This percentage will vary depending on which attractions you select, with greater savings when you choose the more expensive attractions. The best way to calculate your savings percentage is by adding up the gate price of attractions you want to see (listed on the product website, and available at the individual attraction websites as well) and comparing it to the price of the pass, which is under $100 for adults and under $75 for children.

The way the pass is structured, you won’t get your money’s worth if you don’t visit all four included attractions. This can be tricky if there’s a change in plans or bad weather, but the flexibility to use the pass over 30 days can in some cases compensate for any problems that arise in logistics. If there are attractions you want to see that aren’t on this pass, or if you want to see two attractions in the same category, then a Build Your Own pass or a Go San Diego Card might be a better options, also from the same company.
