La Avenida Inn manages to make the lodge-style look cool at the beach. Cherry wood trim and furnishings, and statement pieces like plush, patterned chairs provide guests with a cozy, warm vibe. Its one-part beach oasis and one-part comfy cabin – a complementary blend of both worlds. One of the best amenities La Avenida offers their guests is a concierge-style website. They feature a small blog with helpful travel tips, posts detailing Coronado hot spots, and step-by-step instructions on how to take a virtual tour of their property. The website also provides an updated six-day weather forecast, and an exhaustive list of transportation services. You’ll find water taxis, the San Diego Bay ferry, flex trans, cabs, car rentals, bike rentals, and even more options. With their free- Wi-Fi access you can stay up-to-date with the weather, plan your transportation, and find fun things to do in the neighborhood and the greater San Diego area all from the comfort of your spacious guest room.
Unlike many of the hotels in the area, La Avenida has complimentary on-site parking for overnight guests. The hotel provides complimentary breakfast service each morning. It is typical continental breakfast fare featuring a fresh selection of muffins, pastries, fruits, coffees, teas, and even hot chocolate for the kiddos!
After breakfast, it’s time to make the hard choices – pool or beach. The gated on-site pool offers families a little fun in the sun while providing a level of safety for the little ones. The pool area is surrounded with a lush grassy courtyard. Gorgeous plants and giant palm trees rustling in the breeze invigorate you while you lazily work on your tan or splash around with the kids in the water. Maybe you’re here for the ocean instead. Guests can get large cabana-striped towels, and pail and shovel sets from the front desk and make their way to San Diego’s only true white sand beach. Build sand castles on the shoreline or do a little beachcombing for seashells!
Coronado is best known for its beaches, specifically the nationally recognized Coronado Central Beach, which is conveniently located just steps from La Avenida Inn. Here you can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, surfing, paddle boarding, beach volleyball, or making s’mores at one of the beach fire pits. Sign up for surf lessons or rent a stand-up paddle board and explore the waters around the island.
Other Coronado Island beaches include two small beaches on the island’s bayside in Centennial Park next to Ferry Landing Marketplace, North beach – the island’s dog-friendly beach, Silver Strand where you can camp beachside in an RV or tent, and Glorietta Bay Beach – a family-friendly beach that is also the water sports hub of the island. You can rent anything from kayaks to motor boats here.
La Avenida is just across from the famous Hotel Del Coronado hotel, the island’s National Historic Landmark. Take an impromptu self-guided tour around this hotel with a storied past, which includes murder, hauntings, and famous guests, including eleven presidents and several movie stars. Check out their high-end on-site shops, dine on their beachfront terrace, or get a spa treatment. It’s a great way to experience a little high-end luxury on a budget.
One of the best things to do on Coronado Island is rent a bike or take a stroll along Ocean Boulevard viewing the seaside mansions, or along F Avenue where you can view historic mansions.
